Michael D. Cohen, Ph.D. is the CEO of Cohen Research Group as well as the Publisher of Congress in Your Pocket, an award-winning suite of political directories for mobile devices. Dr. Cohen teaches digital strategy at Johns Hopkins University and political campaigns for the University of California's Washington DC Center.
He served as CSO of WPA Intelligence and Interim Director of the Political Management Program at the Graduate School of Political Management GSPM at the George Washington University in Washington, D.C. Dr. Cohen has also taught the research capstone course for the University of Southern California’s Price Sol School of Public Policy and research methods for the Washington University in St. Louis's D.C. program.
Previously, Dr. Cohen led the DC-based internal Polling Team for Microsoft Corporation, and was Vice President of Public Affairs at Fabrizio, McLaughlin & Associates, beginning his career at The Gallup Organization, and rising to Senior Research Director. While completing his doctorate, he worked for the Republican Party of Florida, helping to lead and coordinate campaigns for the state legislature.
His first book, Modern Political Campaigns, will be available Q1 2021 from Rowman & Littlefield Publishers. While at GSPM, he co-authored a book chapter about social media and the 2016 presidential campaign and published an innovative weekly tip sheet on Twitter and politics. Dr. Cohen has published several articles in Campaigns & Elections Magazine, where he was highlighted as a “Mover & Shaker.” He has been interviewed by various media including The New York Times, Washington Post, CBS News, CNN, Fox News, and VICE News.
Dr. Cohen earned his B.A. in Telecommunications and Business, M.A. in Mass Communication and Political Campaigns, and Ph.D. in Political Science focusing on American government and public administration from the University of Florida, where was inducted into the student leadership Hall of Fame.
