US Congress vote on 2020 election outcome as Trump fans swarm Capitol Hill

The United States Capitol complex is currently locked down after thousands of Trump fans gathered in Washington DC to protest the congressional certification of Democrat Joe Biden as President.

DC's National Guard has been activated and police reports indicate protesters have used force to push past barricades.

The entirety of the US Congress is currently inside the Capitol Hill building in a high-profile meeting to certify the results of the November 2020 election.

If confirmed by Congress, Mr Biden’s inauguration ceremony will be held in approximately two weeks.
